2018 Dalliance Marananga Barossa Valley Shiraz
A majestic expression of Barossa Shiraz, combining immediate allure with decades of cellaring potential.
Colour: Saturated, inky garnet with an opaque core and a vivid purple halo. The glass reveals remarkable density and youthful vibrancy, hinting at both richness and longevity.
Aroma: Immediately expressive, yet refined, with an intricate bouquet of ripe blackberry, mulberry and black cherry, seamlessly interwoven with freshly cracked black pepper, cedar, star anise and dark cocoa. Subtle notes of roasted coffee, graphite and a faint whisper of violets add further intrigue, suggesting both power and finesse in equal measure.
Palate: A commanding Barossa Shiraz, unfolding with wave upon wave of concentrated and luxurious black fruits; blackberry compote, cassis and plum, tempered by savoury spice, cured meats and a flicker of graphite minerality. Layers of dark chocolate, espresso bean and fine French oak bring texture and gravitas. The tannins are supple yet authoritative, shaping the wine into a defined, architectural frame. There is an almost paradoxical combination of power and restraint; immense richness delivered with poise and precision. Colour: Impenetrable, inky black at the core with a luminous deep crimson rim. The saturation is extraordinary, clinging to the glass with thick, slow-moving tears that speak to both concentration and structural depth. A wine of formidable presence from the first pour.
Aroma: The bouquet is expansive and commanding, immediately revealing the pedigree of Marananga. Intense aromas of blackberry, black plum and satsuma plum surge from the glass, layered with crushed black pepper, liquorice root and dark chocolate. Hints of smoked meats, espresso crema and ironstone minerality evoke its proximity to some of the Barossa’s most revered vineyards. Subtle violet florals and finely integrated French oak add lift and polish, bringing refinement to the wine’s natural power.
Palate: A magnificent expression of the 2021 vintage, powerful and impeccably composed. The palate unfolds with concentrated waves of blackberry compote, cassis and dark cherry, framed by savoury spice, cracked pepper and a distinct graphite edge. There is remarkable fruit density; the structure remains precise and controlled. Fine-grained tannins, abundant but beautifully ripe, provide architectural shape and longevity.
